High Alert for Batman: MovieTowne, Imax step up security following killing of 12 at 'Dark Knight Rises' screening in the US

therisingtithes:

just-methinks:

I don’t generally do news on the weekend (I try to stay off the grid), but I couldn’t resist when I saw the front page of today’s Express:

And then I read this quote by Derek Chin, the big boss of MovieTowne:

“We don’t know (what was the reason for) the attack. We don’t know if there is some network (involved). Prevention is better than cure and we have put things in place. MovieTowne is not taking any chances. There will be police officers and a few patrol cars here. We are monitoring it” [Emphasis mine]

Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for being safe rather than sorry, but - leaving aside the fact that the police have expressed confidence that the shooter acted alone and the fact that (with the exception of the coup) mass casualty events aren’t really the M.O. of Trini criminals - it sounds like epic ass-covering to me.

Which is fine, really, because that does actually happen to be the Trini way.

It’s just that it seems quite irresponsible to insinuate that there might have been some kind of (terrorist, I presume) network involved and pretty egotistical to think that, with all the premieres scheduled worldwide, the place these imaginary terrorists are going to want to strike next - to get the most effect - is T&T.

Come, nah.

Ha.

I can’t imagine what the argument would be for why people living on an island miles away from tragedy would need to batten down the hatches because of a movie. I can’t imagine what the argument would be for how a movie, or an isolated incident in another country, would at all trigger some kind of criminal Stand-Alone-Complex-y mass hysteria type shit over here.

But I can very well imagine that I live on the kind of banana republic that would make those kinds of arguments.

You know what they say: When America sneezes …

Rush Limbaugh: 'Dark Knight Rises' villain Bane is a dig at Mitt Romney

The bat doesn’t fly again in T&T until next week, but until then, we can amuse ourselves with the knowledge that Rush Limbaugh is every bit the crackpot that he claims the liberal media makes him out to be:

Rush Limbaugh has come under the impression that the villainous Bane, played by Tom Hardy in “The Dark Knight Rises” and Batman’s most destructive nemesis yet, is a dig at Bain Capital, the financial services company once headed by Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney that’s featuring prominently in President Barack Obama’s campaign ads.

Never mind that the villain debuted in Batman comics back in 1993, or that the movie was in development long before Mitt Romney became a person of interest.

As if that wasn’t bizarre enough, Limbaugh later doubled-down on the idiocy, claiming that Romney has more in common with Batman and Bane fits the profile of an Occupier.

But maybe there’s a method to the madness:

Limbaugh said that he had received more reaction to his Bane/Bain comments than on anything he’s said on-air before, including his controversial comments about Georgetown law student Sandra Fluke. Limbaugh called Fluke a “slut” for testifying about insurance coverage of contraception.

Somehow I doubt that very much, Rush.

Rotten Tomatoes Kills Dark Knight Comments

Just to make sure I’ve got this straight:

Critics watched The Dark Knight, critiqued it, and then people - who have not yet seen the as-yet-unreleased film - attacked them for offering their informed expert opinions?

(Yes, I know ^ is a Marvel/DC conflict, but work with me here)

Wait, Tom Hardy is playing Bane in The Dark Knight Rises?

How did I miss that? Me Thinks I might have a hard time rooting for Bats this time around…

Krang, Bebop, and Rocksteady to be Featured in ‘Ninja Turtles’?

As a TMNT fan from way back, I was devastated to learn that they won’t be teenaged or mutant, but I am heartened to hear that Kang, Bebop and Rocksteady will be there and that the Technodrome and Dimension X might be set pieces.

I still can’t forgive Bay, though. If you’re going to scrap the whole origin story, just leave the franchise alone and call it something else, guy.

ScarJo's Fee for Avengers Sequel Nearly Tops Record

Scarlett Johansson’s getting $20 million to reprise her role as Black Widow in the Avengers sequel? Am I missing something?

Producers of an Avengers sequel are prepared to sign the eye-popping paycheck so she’ll reprise her role as Black Widow when filming starts next year. “Scarlett is the hottest star in Hollywood and her inclusion in the sequel is a must,” a source tells the Sun. “Producers think that as the only lead woman in the film male fans have found her a key ingredient.”

M’kay.

Christopher and Jonathan Nolan Talk About How Charles Dickens Shaped ‘The Dark Knight Rises’

What do The Dark Knight Rises and A Tale of Two Cities have in common?

The link between The Dark Knight Rises and the novel in question isn’t particularly obscure. The social and economic strife that we’ve seen in photos and footage from the film really suggest that Gotham City is about to crumble in the same way that Paris was in the days before the Revolution, as chronicled by Charles Dickens in A Tale of Two Cities. That connection was quite intentional, as the director and his brother discussed over the weekend.

Literature majors everywhere, rejoice!

‘Man Of Steel’ Will Be In IMAX 3D; New Plot Description Revealed

The plot description of the upcoming “Man of Steel”:

In the pantheon of superheroes, Superman is the most recognized and revered character of all time. Clark Kent/Kal-El (Henry Cavill) is a young twenty-something journalist who feels alienated by powers beyond his imagination. Transported years ago to Earth from Krypton, a highly advanced, distant planet, Clark struggles with the ultimate question ‘Why am I here?’ Shaped by the values of his adoptive parents Martha (Diane Lane) and Jonathan Kent (Kevin Costner), Clark discovers having extraordinary abilities means making difficult decisions. When the world is in dire need of stability, an even greater threat emerges. Clark must become a Man of Steel, to protect the people he loves and shine as the world’s beacon of hope – Superman.

Not much to go on … and I’m not reassured by the fact that they’re going to be converting it into 3D.
