So, white people, I’d like you to know that you do not look good in the identities of PoC.
No, really. It’s not a good look. You look like a racist asshole, and you need to stop.
And I mean that with as much respect as I can hide with my ire. It’s not cool. Stop it. Go back to coming to parties in uniforms as mad scientists or The Joker. That’s fine. Do that. Go as Eminem, even. Whatever.
But, please, dear white people, do not go to your Halloween parties as Mahatma Gandhi.
It is wrong to imitate/mock a culture you know nothing about. Don’t do it.
It is wrong to engage in black/brownface. Don’t do it.
It’d be great to have one Halloween where folks don’t need to be told this.
Three white high school students in Waverly, New York, performed a satirical “re-enactment” of Chris Brown’s infamous beating of his then-girlfriend Rihanna, in blackface, at a pep rally in front of students, parents, community leaders, and the media.
The act has decried as racist by former students of the high school, and some have questioned the judgment of the school administrators who allowed such a show to be performed. Their students were participating in a competition to be crowned “Mr. Waverly.”
I’d love to have been a fly on the wall of that brainstorming session.
For the second time ever (and the second season in a row), white models actually comprised just less than 80% of the total model pool.
Well, that quote thoroughly depressed me.
The racists are out in full force today. Let me point out that ashen means having a grey tone to one’s skin, usually because of sickness. It is not equivalent to being pale or to being white.
The worst one is the person who says “omg why would a black dude play a super smart guy (unless he’s morgan freeman).”
The fact that Gabby Douglas’ mother is now responding to this nonsense breaks my heart:
How ignorant is it of people to comment on her hair and she still has more competitions to go. Are you trying to ruin her self confidence?,” Hawkins told Fashionista.com. “She has to go out there and feel good about herself, and if she feels good about herself on that floor, who are you to criticize her? What have you done to help contribute to her dream, that you felt it necessary to put it out there so that she could see it.
That headline should read that Gabby Douglas doesn’t give a shit what anyone thinks about her hair because - after years of blood, sweat and tears - she is currently the number one gymnast in the goddamned world.
Says the 16-year-old phenom:
"I don’t know where this is coming from. What’s wrong with my hair?" said Douglas, the first U.S. gymnast to win gold in team and all-around competition. "I’m like, ‘I just made history and people are focused on my hair?’ It can be bald or short, it doesn’t matter about (my) hair."
Douglas uses gel, clips and a ponytail holder to keep things in place while she competes, a style she’s worn for years.
"Nothing is going to change," she said. "I’m going to wear my hair like this during beam and bar finals. You might as well just stop talking about it."
The bubbly teenager is the first African-American gymnast to win her sport’s biggest prize. She had no idea she was lighting up social media until she Googled herself hours after winning her gold medal.
"I don’t think people should be worried about that," she said. "We’re all champions and we’re all winners. I just say that it’s kind of, a stupid and crazy thought to think about my hair."
Here’s hoping that every jackass who had the nerve to comment on her hair has the good grace to feel ashamed of themselves.
I know I’m late to this story, but how is it that a church can turn away a couple, explicitly say that they’re doing so because of race, and get away with it in 2012?
How is it that something like this - which is often defended as exercising one’s right to religious freedom - can happen in the same country where Muslims are struggling to get approval to build their own places of worship?
This … this right here, is the problem with organized religion.
So… I hear the new “in” thing among racists who don’t want anyone to know that they’re racists is to call black people “Mondays” instead of “niggers”.
This discovery made me sigh. And then it made me laugh a little bit. Then I sighed again.
Because, honestly speaking, despite the fact that this article refers to the word “Monday” as “the equivalent of the N-word”, it’s really … really not. Don’t get me wrong, it’s racist (and extremely pathetic) to refer to a black person as a “Monday” because "nobody likes Mondays", but it’s not at all the same thing as calling us niggers. The history just isn’t there.
In fact, that’s why racists using it. So they can express their racism without being called on it by their targets (and non-racists). Which means, it’s more of an identifier among racists:
"Hey, did you just call that guy a ‘Monday’? Dude… me too." *wink*
If anything it’s exactly like the pseudo-profanity we used to invent as children in order to curse without getting in trouble for doing so. It’s about as intelligent, too.
Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, President of Nigeria
Quote of the Day
President Jonathan was speaking during yesterday’s Emancipation celebrations.
I’ll admit that I’m impressed that he dared to say such a thing in front of our Indo-Trinidadian Prime Minister.
On the other hand, is that what we’re striving towards, Mr. Dr. President? Our turn to dominate?
This is just one of many reasons that I refuse to celebrate this kind of ‘holiday’.
Please, somebody please tell me that this isn’t a real thing. And that BLACK men and women aren’t at the forefront of it:
The self-hatred on display up there is depressing and disturbing. Why is it never enough for a black person to simply succeed? She’s at the top of her game, one of the best in the world, and all some people can see is the texture of her hair?
It’s not at all weird, I understand exactly why you would ask. It seems archaic from the perspective of outside of the US, but the racial tensions are very different inside. The past (as it applies to racial history) is much closer there, so it does actually bring harm to those descendants of the African diaspora.
It’s hard for me to put into words, but it goes back to the whole ‘shuckin and jivin’, uncle Tom, Mammy thing. It’s actually directly related to the suggestion that black people are humorous creatures, and it’s offensive for almost the same reason that the Hottentot Venus cake was so offensive. She appropriated the visage of a black person for “humorous” means. Not cool.
What makes it worse is the excuse of ignorance (there’s actually no excuse not to know up there) or lack of intent (which is pretty irrelevant to whether something is determined to be racist).
And then there’s the accusations of reverse racism.
It’s ugly up there. There is, in fact, no such thing as a post-racial society.
Blackface. In 2012. On Twitter. I AM JUST BEYOND OUTDONE.
fire at will
Go ham on this racist cunt, NOW.
WHY are white people all about saying this lately? And everyone then laughs like it’s the funniest fucking thing even though they’re all making the same goddamn joke. I’m white too but I still don’t get the punchline. It’s funny because…lolzies you’re actually white and just saying you’re not? Why would that be so fucking hilarious? There’s even a facebook group by this same name who’s members all appear to be white.
See guys, it’s the PAINT that’s offensive! If it’s a facemask, THEN it’s lulzcity. It’s so fun to be ignorantly racist as long as I act cute about it. </sarcasm>
Yep. That about covers it.
I called it. We’ve moved on to the reverse racism part of the discussion.
Why is silly piece of fluff @katieisperfect relevant? Because she’s blaming California schools for not teaching her ignorant ass about blackface, and now she’s busy justifying it.
I just can’t. Next, she’ll be having an affirmative action bake sale.
But in all seriousness, since this is apparently a major big huge life-altering fat fucking deal for precious snowflakes, here’s a great piece on how to actually oppress white people.
And this is definitely not the first time our special snowflake has been, uh, insensitive. Check this out from just 2 days ago:
Pretty sure she’s not crying over wasted ice cream, Katie. Maybe California schools taught you about human trafficking? No?
It’s okay, your friends will come to your defense!
An avid skateboarder who said “four to five unknown black males” mugged him in a parking lot actually hurt himself while skateboarding, the Miami Herald reports. Rene Betancourt, 22, broke his skull and was hospitalized for two weeks while detectives searched for his assailants. In the end they found a parking lot surveillance video—of Betancourt knocking himself out cold by skateboarding into a concrete wall.
On that day his parents found him and drove him to a hospital, where doctors removed a swelling, potentially fatal blood clot from his brain. “For the way that my son looked, it seemed like an assault,” his mother said. Betancourt was released this week but remains “cloudy” about the incident, she added. Miami police say they won’t file charges against him “because of the severity of his head injuries.” Needless to say, he wasn’t wearing a helmet.
